HOLLY, MI — Moments after village officials unveiled a new historical marker at Crapo Park Wednesday, local residents reportedly began the solemn civic process of identifying inaccurate wording, omitted context, questionable punctuation, and at least three people whose grandparents should have been mentioned.

“It’s a beautiful marker, and we’re proud to recognize an important piece of Holly’s history,” said Village Historical Affairs Coordinator Marlene Voss, speaking over a man loudly explaining that the park had technically been called something else for six months in 1978. “We carefully reviewed archival records, newspaper accounts, photographs, and firsthand sources, but we understand that none of those materials are as authoritative as someone remembering it differently from the back seat of a Buick.”

The dedication ceremony concluded with officials cutting a ceremonial ribbon while volunteers installed a second, larger plaque summarizing the Facebook comments about the first plaque. Village staff confirmed that space had been reserved nearby for an eventual third marker commemorating the controversy, along with a bench where residents can sit and explain that Holly was better before whichever year the person listening moved there.
