HOLLY, MI — After returning from an afternoon spent eating in Fenton, shopping in Fenton, and attending an event in Fenton, local resident Greg Holloway urged village officials Wednesday to ensure Holly never becomes anything like Fenton.
Holloway, who reportedly visits Fenton several times a month because “there’s more to do,” warned that Holly could lose its small-town character if it developed additional restaurants, shops, public spaces, or reasons to remain in Holly.
“I moved here because it’s quiet,” Holloway said while checking the wait time at a Fenton restaurant. “When I want food, entertainment, or a pleasant downtown experience, I drive somewhere else. That system already works.”
He later clarified that he supports thriving local businesses, provided they do not attract traffic, require parking, stay open past 7 p.m., serve alcohol, hold outdoor events, alter an existing building, construct a new building, or inconvenience him personally.
At press time, Holloway was complaining that nothing ever lasts in Holly.
