HOLLY, MI — Building on the success of July’s inaugural event, the Village of Holly announced Saturday that its Second Annual Boil Water Festival would return just 12 days later following another water main break.

The celebration began at 5 p.m. with the traditional shutting off of water near Quick Road, followed by a village-wide advisory inviting residents to gather around their stoves and boil everything they planned to place inside their bodies.

“Most towns make people wait a full year,” said resident Barb Tillingham, filling a stockpot. “Holly gives you two festivals before you’ve even put the kettle away.”

This year’s event will feature commemorative mugs, a bottled-water garden, and the ceremonial First Unboiled Glass, scheduled to take place after two consecutive safe water tests.

DPW crews will serve as grand marshals while repairing the main beneath Quick Road, continuing Holly’s proud tradition of holding festivals directly above the reason for the festival.

Officials have not announced a date for the Third Annual Boil Water Festival, but advised residents to keep the rest of August open.
